The
Sao Paulo Persimmon Growers Association was founded
in January 2000 reuniting a community of growers from
Mogi das Cruzes region, Ibiuna, Piedade, Pilar do Sul,
Sao Miguel Arcanjo, Itapeva and Apiaí. With over
100 members, the Association aims on improving plantation
technics and obtaining new markets. For the past two
years it has successfully exported its products to European
and Canadian markets.
The State of Sao Paulo is the largest persimmon producer
in Brasil, the city of Mogi das Cruzes, with 40% of
its crops, is the main producer.
The most recommended type of persimmon for exportation
is Cultivar Fuyu, for its non astringent characteristics
and its great shelf life.
