Climate
Persimmon tree is a subtropical plant, but is very adaptable
to tropical or mild weather. The Oriental persimmon
does best in areas with moderate winters and mild summers.
As for humidity, an average of about 1.000mm is enough
if well drained and distribuited. Excess of humidity,
as well as drought during blooming season, are harmful
to the fruit. Cultivars should be protected by windbreak,
because radicular system is rather superficial.

Soil
Persimmon tree has specific requirements on the chemical
and physical soil caracteristics. The site should receive
full sun and the soil be well drained. The pH should
be between 6 to 7. Oriental persimmons tolerate a wide
range of soil types as long as the soil does not have
a high soluble salt level and its depth is adequate.
Soil testing is the best way to determine the amount
and kind of fertilizer needed. Fertilizer should be
applied evenly under the tree canopy in late winter
or very early spring. Alternate bearing is common in
most varieties and is related to factors such as crop
load (too heavy or too light), tree age or vigor, soil
moisture, and pollination requirements.
